Someone once complained that the transactional interpretation of quantum mechanics has a vague notion that a photon has to scope out in all directions before it can "find" a partner with which it can share its transaction. I agree that there is a beautiful symmetry in the notion that our universe is "a static unchanging configuration in 3- + 1- dimensional space". I would go further to conjecture that our universe is part of a multiverse that is not static and unchanging. In this view, our universe will merge with a larger structure as it completes its evolution, yet at the same time our universe could be only one wave pattern existing for an instant (of "hypertime") in the larger 3- + 1- dimensional space. Imagine that all the photon pairs created in our lifetimes are the result of a simpler wave activity in a portion of the larger 3- + 1- dimensional space.

The philosophy given above is akin to the concept of Islam (or surrender) to the will of God or the Calvinist concept of predestination. After sending this message I will play the violin and will enjoy playing it regardless of whether this activity will have been determined at the time of the unfolding of our universe.

Does "spirituality" put its feelers beyond the 3- + 1- dimensional space? I know that I would go crazy (with "information overload") if I were to have access to energies throughout the 3- +1- dimensional space, but I have this feeling that "spirituality" offers me a level of communion that is independent of the transactional interpretation.

Having offered this brief acknowledgment of spirituality, I still do continue to share your curiosity of (and desire to understand) how quantum mechanics works. Perhaps if enough people think about it there will be the learning of it within the cosmic realm (with no one individual responsible for the full understanding, but rather the collective consciousness).

I agree with Anji, I'm a woman and I loved this book, it just flows. I'm the mother of two (now grown up) young men and this story rang so true.

The only thing that annoys me about this is that the review says that 'women will deride it'. Bit of a sweeping statement - I'm a woman and I didn't. I loved it and thought the Finland bit was one of the most romantic things I've ever read.

I agree with white for having no achievements - you're fresh and new. And the big jump of blue shows how much there is to learn as a whitebelt.

I can agree with the Purple, Brown and Black belt assessment. However, I would argue that the Blue belt represents a junior or senior and the White belt equals freshmen. A White belt with 4 stripes could equal a sophomore.
